REEF DINNER! - Stuart - August 2010
G’day guys.
Stuart Thompson of Buderim in Queensland sent in this photo of a parrot fish and pearl perch that he caught while fishing offshore.
Catching fish for the table doesn't come any better than this - two of the best tasting fish you can get.
Let's hope that we can continue our offshore fishing in the future, and these proposed marine lockouts don't get out of control.

GOOD MANNERS PLEASE! - Matt - July 2010
G’day guys.
I love the DVD’s! I have a suggestion for an upcoming DVD.
I would love to see a segment on boating etiquette, launching and retrieving etc . Also fishing etiquette - keeping your distance from other boats, for all the people who don’t fish as much as we do, it would be a great way to show them how to stay out of trouble with other boats.
For example, if someone has a floating buoy in front of their boat it probably means they have an anchor yanker system and will need the space to retrieve it. Also when there is a school of fish smashing the surface don’t drive through the middle of the school, basically all the things that drive us mad when fishing.
Cheers Matt.

GOOD MANNERS PLEASE! - Matt - July 2010
G’day Matt.
In DVD #16, Shannon Watson did a 'How To' segment on launching your boat that covered boat ramp etiquette. What you are saying has a lot of merit, and really should be covered by common sense, and respect for others.
We will make a point to make these suggestions.
Thanks for your email,

CARP FISHING & PROSECUTION - Rod - July 2010
Hi,
I enjoy watching your DVDs, sadly I can no longer afford them.
However DVD 14 had a piece on fly fishing for carp in Keepit dam.
Peter Morse stated that it was OK to release carp back into the water.
I have just checked with NSW fisheries, it is illegal to release carp.
This misinformation may result in anglers being prosecuted by fisheries.
Thanks

CARP FISHING & PROSECUTION - Rod - July 2010
Hi Rod,
Thanks for your email. The point you bring up is a very good one, and needs clarification.
Peter Morse stated that "The current NSW fishery policy is that they (carp) are a declared noxious species.", and while he was saying this, a message came up on the screen to "CHECK with fisheries in your state for latest carp policies" (Which I am glad to see that you have done so.)
At the time of filming, we also checked with DPI (Department of Primary Industries). As we were fishing in an impoundment at Lake Keepit, where carp numbers are already so high, the officers did not mind that we released the fish. This would not have been the case if we had been fishing in a free flowing river, where the carp cause enormous damage to native fish stocks and habitat.
Thanks
for keeping us on our toes Rod, we appreciate it.
One other thing Rod, keep an eye out for our 2010 FATHERS DAY specials (coming soon) - you will be able to get all the DVDs you have missed out on.
All the best with your fishing,

South OZ - Big Fish!
Brett Mensforth has been very busy recently, stretching a few rods on the quality fish available in South Australia. From bream to mulloway to kingfish, they all appear in good numbers and sizes in South Australia. Have a look at the photos he has sent in the GALLERY
To get a better idea of what is going on in South Australia, you should check out the South Australian Angler magazine. Subscribe to them online at their website.

SUGGESTIONS - Bob - June 2010
I would like to make a couple of suggestions for a couple of your future DVDs.
One is a segment on beach worming as I know a lot of fishos who hear how daunting it is and never try it. I know there is a art in it. I myself have tried it but just not successful at it.
Another suggestion is a back to basics, which is one the kids and beginners could learn from about gathering bait, such as ways of catching poddy mullet gathering squirt worms pumping nippers etc.
We tend to cater for the more experienced and older-fishos, but there are a lot of beginners like holiday makers and their kids who basically know little about getting set up for fishing, and the fun they can share gathering bait.
Tight lines,
Bob Williams

Bob,
Thanks for your thoughts, and for taking the time to write them down. We will certainly act upon them.
We have done some bait gathering episodes already, but we will do more in the future. Way back in DVD#2 we did a Beach Fishing story that showcased how to catch beach worms. Just recently in DVD#17 we did another story on gathering bait for Family Fishing.
Bait fishing is a very important skill that needs to be understood and practiced, so that you have a firm building block for lure casting and even fly fishing. Knowing how predatory fish react to bait presentations will give you a better idea of how to fish with artificial 'baits'. We will definately be doing more on this.

Brown Trout - Kate - January 2010
Kate thought she would like to try a bit of fly fishing while on holiday.
Having attended the fly casting day Hooked on Angling & Outdoors had with Nial Logan and Gordon Low some time back, (and doing no practice since) - she like all 12 year olds thought she knew what she was doing.
Apparently she did listen! This is her first ever fish on fly, a nice 3lb brown trout. Lucky for her her holiday was in the south island of New Zealand!
Don't 12 year olds know the meaning of "ímpossible"? |
